To help our students, families and community focus on the benefits and fun of fitness, the Groveland
Elementary Home and School Association is hosting the second annual Groveland Great Grizzly 5K
Race and 1-mile Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 9 a.m. The pre-registration deadline is
March 24, 2008.

The starting line, awards and activities will take place at the Plumsteadville Volunteer Fire House.
Proceeds from the event will go towards the Groveland Elementary Wellness Committee and the
Plumsteadville Volunteer Fire Company.

This year, we’ll also be collecting footwear -- both new and used -- for Soles4Souls. Soles4Souls
facilitates the donations of shoes, which are used to aid the hurting worldwide. It is a 501(c)3
recognized by the IRS, and donating parties are eligible for tax advantages. They first coordinated
relief efforts for the Asian Tsunami and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, netting over 900,000 pairs
donated for these disasters.

Part of Groveland’s Commitment to Fitness – and Community
At Groveland, we are committed to helping students live a healthier lifestyle. To that end, we started
a “Feeling Good Fitness” Program, where our students are encouraged to walk a designated path
during their recess times. Their distance is recorded and the kids are able to see how their mileage
and fitness quickly add up.

In addition to helping pay for the upkeep of this program, the Groveland 5K and Fun Run is intended
to:
• give our students a special fitness goal
• allow their families and neighbors to model good fitness habits
• enable the entire community to come together for a healthful reason

This event is one of the many ways in which our school and neighborhoods come together as a
caring community and exemplify Groveland’s principles of respect, responsibility, good
sportsmanship and cooperation.

How You Can Help
More than 500 people of all ages joined the fun last year, and we expect an even greater turnout in
2008.

But for this event to be successful, we need the support of area businesses. Specifically, we are
looking for a main sponsor, who will be included in all media outreach and who can display signage
and set up a table at the Firehouse, as well as the benefits listed below.

• For a donation of $250, your business’ name will be included on back the runner/walkers’ T-shirts.
• For a $500 donation, your name will be on the sleeve of the event t-shirt.
• All donors receive two complimentary 5K race registrations.
• All names will be included in our weekly emails and monthly newsletter, which reach 850+
families.
• All supporters can include coupons and/or giveaways in the participants’ bags.
• All businesses’ names will be on the finish-line banner.

In addition, we welcome in-kind donations, such as water bottles, bagels, bananas, juice, paper
cups and napkins, printing of posters, trophies or medals, socks, reflectors, or other race-related
items for participants.
